Nottingham Rugby take on Doncaster Knights in the Quarter Finals of the RFU Championship Cup tonight as the Green and Whites hope to win their fourth game in all competitions on the bounce.
After topping Pool 3 in December Neil Fowkes’ side were drawn at home to Doncaster who finished third in Pool 2 in a knockout competition that is in only its second year.
Doncaster are currently eighth in the RFU Championship league table just three points behind Nottingham in sixth and the two sides are evenly matched last time out separated only by a point when the Knights won 16-15 in January.
Tonight’s visitors enjoyed a cracking result last weekend beating Jersey Reds 38-10 and ahead of the match Fowkes said of his opponent “Having seen their game at the weekend they’ve got a good scrum and carry the ball well. They’re a tough side.”
“We’re not expecting anything less than their forward back coming here to show us what they’re about we’ve got to step up and control the football when we need to.”
After Nottingham beat Hartpury last weekend in their third successive league win of the year Fowkes stated “The boys spoke after the game on Friday and said ‘You don’t get the opportunity to play in these games very often’. To have it at home as well is a massive plus for us. The boys are excited to get out there and they want to do well in the cup. They will be giving everything they’ve got to get the win.”
