Will Simonds has signed for Wasps first team squad and will enjoy Premiership Rugby Union with them next season after being promoted from their under 18’s & A team following a short spell on loan at Nottingham earlier in the year.
Simonds an academy graduate with the Coventry based outfit housed at the Ricoh Arena enjoyed a short but sweet loan stay at Lady Bay prior to the seasons lockdown closure, playing six games and picking up a try in the green and white hoops.
The England Under 20’s star can play full-back on the wing or at centre and joins another former Nottingham loanee in Alfie Barbeary who has also been promoted to Wasps first team ahead of the new campaign which is still scheduled to get under way prior to the Autumn.
On cementing their places in the Wasps side for 2020/21 Nottingham Head Coach Neil Fowkes who managed the two players during their loan spells said “It’s great to see the the two lads promoted to the senior squad at Wasps, and nice to know Nottingham has provided Will especially the opportunity to showcase what he can do”.
“We want to work with Premiership sides to give young players the opportunity to play competitive rugby in the Championship alongside their academy rugby education and this is a great example of the joined up approach working to everyone’s benefit.”
In other news Nottingham have secured a couple of existing sponsors ahead of the new season despite their decision to go part time with Distinction Digital Agency renewing acquaintances and West Bridgford based agency The Dairy also securing their commitment towards Nottingham Rugby for the 2020/21 season ahead.
