After a cracking start to the season, Worksop Town lost their first match of the league campaign last night at home to Sutton Coldfield Town as the Tigers slip down to seventh in the Pitching In Northern Premier League South East Division.
Luke Hinsley gave Craig Parry’s side an early lead on eight minutes before the away side levelled on 18 before Jordan Francis made it two to the visitors on 35.
A killer goal before half time made it 1-3 and although Charlie Jemson eventually struck to reduce the deficit on 86, a late rally was dealt a knockout blow just three minutes later as Reece Leek finished a counter-attacking move to guarantee that all three points headed back to the West Midlands.
It was a marginally better night for Carlton Town who drew at home to Stamford. Joel Daft gave the Millers a first half lead and as the game crept into the later stages it might have been all three points for Tommy Brookbanks and Mark Harvey but for a 77th minute leveller by Sean Wright.
That result leaves Carlton twelfth in the table with eight points from seven games played.
In the Northern Counties East League First Division Retford FC came from two goals behind to snatch a late draw with Dronfield Town. A Jack Johnson double saving the North Notts club from defeat in Chesterfield scoring his first in the 84th minute before four minutes later snatching a late equaliser to share the spoils.
Finally in the East Midlands Counties League, Clifton were convincing 3-0 winners over Clipstone at Green Lane whilst Kimberley Miners Welfare beat Barrow 5-0 with five different scorers at the Stag and West Bridgford came from behind to draw at home against Shirebrook thanks to a late Oliver Robinson goal.
Tonight in the EMCL Gedling Miners Welfare travel to Belper United whilst Sherwood Colliery make the trip to Derbyshire to face Heanor.
The big derby of the day is in the Midland League however as East meets West with Newark FC going strong unbeaten in the division travel to Selston who are currently bottom without a point.
Kick Off at the Parish Hall is 7:45pm with entrance £6 for adults, £3 concessions whilst U16’s and NHS workers go free.
