Mansfield Town 1-3 Bradford City (EFL League Two) 17.10.20
A terrible start by the Stags saw the Bantams take a ninth minute lead when Connor Wood’s corner was dropped by Mansfield Goalkeeper Marek Stech over his line and into the net and within five minutes it was double trouble for Graham Coughlan’s men as Wood this time finished off a move which was back-heeled into him by Harry Pritchard.
Mansfield could have reduced the deficit on 22 when Bowery’s shot was smothered by Bradford keeper O’Donnell whilst at the other end Stuart McCall’s side looked dangerous on the break in hunt of a third.
At the interval, infuriated Stags boss Coughlan made a triple substitution taking off Rawson, Maris and Maynard for Benning, Charsley and Cook but the immediate chance in the second half went to Bradford who shot through Callum Cooke as Stech this time saved well.
Mansfield’s own Cook, Andy, might have done better but for heading straight at O’Donnell in a bid to reduce the deficit and the Stags were left to rue that missed opportunity as Clayton Donaldson made it three with twenty minutes remaining.
Things went from bad to worse for Mansfield as Charlton loanee George Lapslie, making his debut, who picked up a yellow card a minute before the break, received his marching orders for a second booking ten minutes from time.
Andy Cook did restore some positivity in heading home a corner with five minutes remaining but too little too last for the Stags who’s start cost them dearly in what ended to be a comfortable afternoon’s work for Bradford.
Next up for Mansfield is a trip to Morecambe where points are most needed as the Stags now fall into the relegation zone.
Stags: Stech, O’Keefe, Rawson (Benning 46), Menayese, Sweeney, McLaughlin, Maris (Charsley 46), Perch, Lapslie, Maynard, Bowery (Cook 46).
