Happy Birthday To Us. The Nottingham Sport is officially one years old today having posted our first ever article exactly one year ago today. And you can read it here (although don’t be too excited as it’s quite boring).
In truth our vision for the Nottingham Sport website came a little time before this date but on the 22nd October 2019 we officially went live and started providing you, the people of Nottinghamshire with up to date sports news covering our whole community from the City Ground to Clipstone FC’s Lido, from Basketball to Boxing, from Ice Hockey to Field Hockey, from Worksop to Whatton and more.
The idea was to provide you and the wider community of Nottingham and our county with a hub that covers all sports, providing news, results and stories on all our great teams and athletes.
And one year later, whilst we still have a lot to improve, we think we’ve done that, just a little bit, hoping we’ve helped highlight sports that often don’t get covered and teams that constantly get ignored by the bigger local news providers.
They say if you can survive a year in business than you’re more likely to grow in business, as a lot of small businesses fall within the first year we always had this day as a target for survival before we hope to thrive in the years to come.
It hasn’t been easy, especially over a hefty Xmas period last year and during Covid-19 which has severely impacted the sports industry (as well as many other industries) over the last 8/9 months, we had hoped to be regularly paying our top writers for content by now but have like most hit financial stumbling blocks, but for every contributor and for everyone to have read and enjoyed our website, this is for you.
To the writers in particular, Steve Corry, Joe Archer, Joe Freeman, Tom Head, Peter Mann, thank you, to those who work within non-league and regularly provide us reports too, including Marc Williams, Max Barton, Harry Worgan, Peter Trifunovic, Sky Blue Miller (who’s real name we are not allowed to reveal) thank you…
To the teams in the county that have supported us, to the individual athletes that we’ve talked to, interviewed, and generally had positive feedback from, thank you.
And finally, to review the last twelve months briefly, a huge well-done to our teams this last year. In particular Nottingham Panthers who reached a European Final, Beeston Hockey Club who’s men and women’s teams both won the England Hockey Championships Final, to Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club who capped off the summer as the country’s most successful ever T20 team… In winning the T20 Blast for the second time. Highlighting the joys of the journeys that culminate in silverware are always those most fondly covered.
We hope more will follow throughout the years to come, and we’ll be 100% behind you at Nottingham Sport, covering you all the way!
If you would like to advertise with us and be part of our journey, if you would like to contribute and send your teams match reports, if you are a freelance writer looking to cover our local teams and athletes, then please get in touch at info@nottinghamsport.com and come join us as we are always looking for ‘more’ merry men (and women) from the good people of Nottingham and Robin Hood’s County to help us in our coverage of local sport.
