Following last weeks announcements of Harry Gurney and Samit Patel putting pen to paper with Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club, two more players have this week committed their futures to the club.
Zak Chappell and Matt Carter have signed contract extensions until 2022 ensuring they’ll be at Trent Bridge for another two summers of cricket at least.
England Lions off-spinner Carter was fantastic in the Vitality Blast last season and has been making headways since his debut for Notts in 2015, regarded as one of the best young talents in the country, the 24 year old said “Being an established part of the T20 side for a couple of years, and with getting opportunities in the red-ball side last season as well, I feel that this is an exciting part of my career.”
“Playing all formats is where I want to be, last season was good for me in that regard and I’m looking forward to seeing what the next couple of years bring.”
Fast bowler Chappell who is also 24, joined the side from Leicestershire in 2018 and has improved gradually to be the clubs leading wicket taker in the Bob Willis Trophy and winning the emerging pro player of the season for this year.
Chappell said “Last season was a big one for me – I feel like I found my rhythm and my confidence early on, and everything just snowballed from there.”
“I believe I’m a much better bowler for the work that Pete Moores and Kevin Shine did with me over last winter, so I’m really excited to see how I can push forward again over this close-season.”
He continued “The great thing about playing at Trent Bridge is the wealth of experience you can lean on and learn from – from the coaching staff to the likes of Bally, Fletch and Broady, that’s really helped me over my time here, and I’m sure it will continue to do so over the next two summers.”
A number of Notts players (those not playing overseas) were back in winter training last week with some dusting off with the ball in the nets as well as the dreaded yo-yo test and an even more testing biathlon at Holme Pierrepoint to blow away the post-season cobwebs.
