Wildcats Appeal For Help

Uncertain times and government restriction has caused agony and headache for our sporting clubs and Nottingham Wildcats are one of those suffering most right now, unable to play basketball for a large proportion of 2020, the Wildcats have only just recently got back on court after the 2019/20 campaign was cancelled. Playing their first two WBBL matches of the 2020/21 season without spectators in attendance.

A charitable trust since 2000 when they moved into their then brand new home on Greenwood Road, the Wildcats aim to make a difference in the local community through basketball but that has severely been hampered this year as covid-19 has put pay to the clubs various aged junior team matches and mini-ballers programme which are all designed to coach the next generation of Wildcats.

Testing times for a club established in 1976 and one that is one of the most successful women’s basketball teams in the country having twice won the Womens British Basketball League title (as recently as 2015/16 & 2016/17).

That’s why the club have set up a crowdfunding page to support the side post Covid-19 in the hope that it can ease the strain on finances as the team participate in the top league in the country as well as helping those youngsters with their future development too.

In a statement the Wildcats said “Like many similar organisations, Covid-19 has had a negative impact on the ability to provide a basketball provision. This not only took basketball away from our club and community, but also had a significant financial impact on the club, impacting on the ability to run several community initiatives.”

On how to help out they continued “Your support, whether it’s a small donation, purchasing a T-shirt or taking a sponsorship package out will help the Nottingham Wildcats continue to participate at the top level of elite basketball, but just as importantly, assist in the development of women’s basketball and ensure that the basketball programme continues to enrich the lives of women and young adults within the Nottinghamshire region.”

The crowd funding page with more information is here so please help one of our best local sporting teams so that they can continue to help the community they serve so well.
