Superb Stags Hit Vale For Four

Mansfield Town 4-0 Port Vale (EFL League Two) 02.01.21

It was a fantastic day’s work for Nigel Clough’s Stags who recorded their biggest win of the season as they saw off Port Vale in the cold at the One Call Stadium in some style today.

Ollie Clarke had Mansfield off to a flyer within a minute and a Jordan Bowery hat-trick topped a perfect day at the office although Tyrese Sinclair did miss a late penalty to crown what would have been a five-star performance but the three points earned take Mansfield to 19th in the division and more importantly three points above the drop zone as the battle for survival continues to be a tight affair.

Vale in 17th are only five points above the drop zone themselves and they’ll be looking over their shoulder along with Mansfield who now themselves will look to kick on their good recent form to push up the league two ladder with Manager Clough delighted with the way his side went about their business today.

Clough stated “It’s absolutely brilliant, and to do it in January of a new year, we’re all looking forward to 2021 being a much brighter year than the previous ones, so it’s a great way to start it.

Mansfield took the lead after Clarke capitalised on Vale goalkeeper Brown saving from Charsley to smash home the rebound and shortly after the half hour it was two when Bowery got in on the action for his first of the day.

Shortly after the start of the second half, Vale were reduced to ten men after Leon Legge chopped down Lapslie and the Stags made it three from the spot after Charsley was brought down for Bowery to slam home his second.

Bowery made it four on eighty minutes to net his first hat-trick in amber and blue before Sinclair missed a late penalty after coming on for the man of the match on 83 minutes but it mattered not, as Mansfield made it a winning start to the New Year.

Next up for the Stags is Salford City on Tuesday before an FA Cup third round tie at Cheltenham next weekend.
