Stalemate As Notts Held By Leaders

Notts County 0-0 Torquay United (National League) 23.01.21

It was stalemate at Meadow Lane as Notts County took on the divisions top team Torquay United. In the end the draw a fair reflection as neither team on the day did enough to win.

National League debuts were given for both sides players as Inih Effiong came in for Notts up front and former Arsenal star Ben Sheaf started for Torquay and in an evenly contested first half neither keeper would be troubled as a competitive midfield battle ensured each team would not give away too many opportunities to one another.

Reeves goal bound shot blocked by his opposite midfielder Sheaf on 23 minutes before Waters fired straight at Slocombe at the other end.

The closest anyone would come was when Lemonheigh-Evans’ free kick on 33 minutes was only half-cleared to be hooked back in by Whitfield with a wicked deflection off Rawlinson almost taking the ball into the County net.

The second half was equally as tight, equally as competitive, Whitfield causing problems for County the thorn that looked to be sharpest for the gulls, Notts attacked with Boldewijn but defences of both sides stood firm. Substitute Umerah with a late chance to win it as his outstretched foot evaded the ball following Lemonheigh-Evans tantalising cross into the box.

In the end a good point, neither here or there perhaps, but a test against the best, which Notts sure matched their opponents. Hope is now that County get chance to quickly put more points on the board with a successive run of games that they crave, with no more stoppages and postponements please.

Next up Solihull Moors on Tuesday where three points will do nicely.
