Mansfield Town 0-2 Leyton Orient (EFL League Two) 02.04.21
Another disappointing display from Mansfield Town as they again go through the motions towards the season end, the worry is with no victory in six, the Stags now lie just nine points above the drop zone into the National League.
It was far from the start Stags wanted as the O’s took the lead as early as the fourth minute when Danny Johnson prodded home following a corner that was headed back into the danger zone by Sam Ling.
The visitors had already gone close when Gordon under hit a back pass and Johnson ran onto in the third minute before forcing Aidan Stone into a good save.
Mansfield did improve after the early goal conceded, slightly, and on 21 minutes Jamie Reid saw his shot blocked before Law couldn’t find his shooting boots after good work by Maris. Johnson at the other end a consistent thorn in the Stags defence, firing over when it looked like the forward would make it two.
In the second half the Stags came out fighting, Lapslie shot low, saved by Vigouroux just two minutes in before the same player had a shot blocked after Bowery laid off on 55.
Shortly before an hour gone, Maris shot high and wide from distance as Mansfield tried their luck to get back into the game but as pressure mounted at one end, Rawson heading over er on 73, another short back pass sent Johnson through at the other end and Orient made it two.
That goal, the vital second, killed off any hope of a comeback, Nigel Clough’s side will next face a trip to Exeter City on Monday, looking for a first win since they beat Cheltenham on March 9th, the clubs only victory in their last nine games.
