Woking 2-4 Notts County (National League) 05.04.21
A second win of the Easter weekend gave new Notts County Head Coach Ian Burchnall back-to-back three points whilst striker Jimmy Knowles deservedly stole the headlines as the man who came in for the suspended Kyle Wootton did good.
Knowles grabbed a 19-minute hat-trick after his side came from behind following a disappointing first half to turn things around in a tremendous second 45 that ensures the Magpies are still chasing the pack at the top of the table with promotion still very much in sight.
A busy first half of goalmouth action saw the Magpies take the lead with yet another for free scoring centre half Mark Ellis who netted his third in total for Notts since signing, smashing home after Boldewijn centred into the danger area on twenty minutes.
Woking were soon level though as eight minutes later Barnett felled Diarra and Kretzschmar dispatched his penalty past Slocombe.
Five minutes later it was even worse for Notts as Ashford scored Woking’s second on 33 from close range, tapping home after the ball was kept alive from a free kick aimed in at the back post.
2-1 to the hosts at half time.
Notts started the second period well however and were back on level terms fifteen minutes into the second half when Jimmy Knowles found the net after robbing the defender to race into the penalty area and slip home right footed.
Five minutes later Knowles made it two for him and three for County as the Stags loanee fired calmly to leave the Woking goalkeeper stranded to put the Magpies in front again and four minutes later he so nearly made it a hat-trick after Barnett’s cross caused chaos in the box.
On 72, substitute Knight missed a good chance to put daylight between the two sides but it mattered little as seven minutes later the same player cleverly left the ball for Knowles who went through to slide home his third of the match.
Late on a great save by Slocombe and even better block by Boldewijn ensured the home team wouldn’t score a third but it was County’s day, eventually, Ian Burchnall’s day and of course Jimmy Knowles day too as Notts make it a maximum point Easter weekend.
