It was a tough day at the office for Andy Cook and his Nottingham Forest charges on Sunday afternoon, as they headed to the Steel City and were put to the sword.
Registering twice in each half, the FA Women’s Championship side, fielding former Forest player, Bex Rayner, put in a comfortable performance to claim victory.
The lead would come after just six minutes, with the first three goals coming from corners, Georgia Robert firing home the first from a set-piece.
Forest captain, the experienced Lyndsey Harkin, would grab the equaliser, after 27 minutes, but that remained of less than a minutes, the hosts immediately retaliating as Courtney Sweetman-Kirk headed home to send the Blades in ahead at the interval.
Shortly before the hour-mark and Sweetman-Kirk made it a double for herself as she put the ball nicely into the far corner after a first-time ball from Maddy Cusack.
Then came Lucy Watson, an England U18 international, who, shortly before the Blades’ third goal, had come on as a substitute.
It was to be Watson’s first pre-season appearance having been away on international duty and, within 25 minutes of being on the field of play, had wrapped up proceedings when adding the from a tight angle.
In what has been a mixed pre-season to date, and ahead of kicking off the new campaign at home to Huddersfield Town on 14 August, Forest’s warm-up matches conclude with a home game against Watford Ladies next weekend (8 August).
