Notts Keeper Heads Back South
Notts County Goalkeeper Joe McDonnell has turned down a new contract offer at Meadow Lane to join fellow National League outfit Eastleigh who earlier in the week signed another former Magpie in Pierce Bird.
Basingstoke born McDonnell who only signed in February from AFC Wimbledon has decided to make the move back south after failing to oust clubs number one Sam Slocombe despite playing the last six games of the season prior to lockdown which included the clubs impressive win at Barrow.
A player who played under Neal Ardley previously at Wimbledon, now aged 26 and who feels that he wanted first team football, McDonnell stated “I would like to thank the management, coaching staff, office staff, players and all the fans for making my short stay an enjoyable one.”
Better news for Notts yesterday however as Richard Brindley became the second star to agree terms for the season ahead after Alex Lacey earlier in the week with the 27 year-old right back stating “I’m very confident that Notts is a club that will help me fulfil my potential next season and that the supporters are yet to see the best of me.”
“Although I joined a little late last season, I’ve connected with all my team-mates, the manager and his staff and we’re all determined to achieve success.”
