NSL Round Up – Race For Title Continues

Half a dozen games to play, nine points gap, and second place Cotgrave with a game in hand on leaders FCV Grace Dieu, the race for the Notts Senior League Premier Division title has been an intriguing one for most of the season.

On Saturday gone, it was the leaders in action away to Borrowash Victoria, in a six-goal thriller, the visitors claiming a 4-2 win as Harrison Holland grabbed a brace; Alis Hallaci and Spencer Weir-Daley also netted for the leaders, with Lee Hellier and Jacob Hawksworth replying.

Stan Logan netted a brace as Keyworth United, in third, won 3-2 away to Woodthorpe Park Rangers, and Wollaton won 4-1 against visitors FC Sez thanks to braces from Josh Lally and Liam Taylor.

The remaining three games in the Premier Division saw West Bridgford win 2-0 at FC Cavaliers, Dunkirk 1-0 at Beeston, and Radcliffe Olympic by the same against visiting Awsworth Villa.

Division One leaders Kimberley Miners Welfare continued their seeming title procession when winning 2-0 at third place AFC Colsterworth, whilst East Leake Robins, in second eased past visiting Keyworth Reserves 4-0; Toby Gibbs and Alfie Newbold netted in the first half for the leaders in their win, whilst there was four different scorers for the Robins with Nathan Ball, Sam Eggleston, Thomas Hardy, and Klaudio Marqeshi all netting.

Hucknall Town Reserves were the days top scorers when they won 9-2 away to Beeston Old Boys Association, Trevell Lindo with a four-goal salvo for the victors, whilst Stapleford Town Reserves and Ravenshead both netted four apiece in home wins – the former, 4-3 against PMG Excel, the latter 4-2 against AC United.

It was Stapleford’s second successive 4-3 win, having won by the same at Keyworth Reserves the previous week, this time goals came via a Ryan Hughes hat-trick and one for Harvey Lack; Joshua Maregane bagged a brace in reply, along with one for Luke Aloysius.

The other two games would see Bingham Town and Meden Vale Colts both score three times in wins on the road, Town winning 3-1 at Sandiacre, and Colts 3-2 at Rushcliffe.

A handful of games were played in Division’s Two and Three, with plenty of goals in the former as the top two both lost; leaders Elston United were edged in nine-goal thriller at home to Wollaton Reserves (seven different scorers), and second place Notts Olympic went down 4-1 at Calverton Miners Welfare.

Gedling Southbank are into third following a big win of their own also, they seeing off visitors FC Cavaliers Reserves 5-0 thanks to goals from Stephen King (3) and Ethan Jacks (2).

In the latter meanwhile, Zak Madden’s brace gave East Leake Reserves a 2-1 win away to Awsworth Reserves, and the semi-finals of the leagues’ Junior Cup competition were also played.

AFC Parabellum, third in Division Three, won 3-0 at home to Trent Vineyard, Dillon Roberts with a brace, and fifth place Collingham Reserves hit hosts Ravenshead Reds for six without reply as Leo Charnock bagged a hat-trick.

As for the Development Division, Group A saw AFC Warriors win 5-2 at Cotgrave, and Attenborough eased past Red Sea 4-0; and in Group B the game between South Notts and Linby Colliery Welfare, finished in a 2-2 draw.
