Grace Complete NSL Double

The remaining two cup finals in the Euro Soccer Nottinghamshire Senior League were played out at Hucknall Town this past weekend, with Premier Division champions, FCV Grace Dieu, completing a League and Cup double with victory over Aslockton & Orston in the Senior Cup.

The Premier Division champions, led by Shane Clarke, looked at one point like they were going to run away with the Senior Cup, leading by two goals at the break; Spencer Weir-Daley putting them a goal up on eleven minutes which was doubled by FCVs 42-year-old former Jamaican international, Lee Williamson, just after the half hour mark.

Within ten minutes of the restart and Aslockton pulled a goal back when Greg McLean halved the deficit to give the Cranmers hope, however, FCV added a killer third as the game motioned into the final fifteen minutes through Joshua Halliday.

Having won the Premier Division by a comfortable, ten points, from runners-up Cotgrave, and a hefty twenty-eight ahead of Aslockton, victory in the cup final was just-reward for all the hard work the side have put in across the season as a whole.

The other final played, earlier in the day, brought forth an extra-time, seven-goal thriller, as Collingham Reserves eventually won 4-3 against AFC Parabellum, the side finishing fifth in Division Three edging the runners-up.

A see-saw encounter would see Collingham’s second string snatch the lead inside ten minutes, but Parabellum had equalised minutes later, from distance; it would be Parabellum who’d lead at the break, netting with a little over five of the first remaining, for a 2-1 interval lead.

A non-stop second half finally took on a new light inside the final ten minutes when Parabellum had a player sent-off, before Collingham took the game to extra-time with an equaliser in stoppage time.

Golas from Harry Parker and Joshua Cummings gave Collingham a two-goal advantage in the first half of the added thirty and, although Ryan Kranse reduce that in the closing minutes, Collo held on for a huge, 4-3 victory.

Just three points separated the two sides in the league, Parabellum having finished in third place and Collingham fifth, Parabellum having won both league encounters and, overall, the three meetings seeing fifteen goals netted.

Overall, the NSLs Roll of Honour for the 2024/25 season was as follows –

Division One: Kimberley Miners Welfare Reserves

Division Two: Elston United

Division Three: Beeston Reserves

Development Division: Newark & Sherwood United Development
