Bygones – 2020: Our Year In Photos

Our year in pictures provides a photographic outlook of Nottingham Sport and sports events within the county of Nottinghamshire over the 12 months of 2020 and highlights some of the best images and action shots taken from a number of club-affiliated and independent photographers who continue to support our local teams and athletes.

January: Forest are beaten in the FA Cup by Chelsea as Alex Mighten gets the wrong verdict of VAR.

January: Michael Doyle scores a stunning winner against Dagenham for Notts County in the FA Trophy.

January: Nottingham Panthers finish as runners up in Ice Hockey’s Continental Cup.

February: Newark Flowserve fans light up their Hawton Lane Ground in a match verses Selston.

February: Forest players celebrate with fans during a remarkable win against Leeds United.

February: Newark Rugby Club feels the force of the floods after the nearby River Trent bursts its banks.

February: Fight night as Belfast Giants are beaten 4-0 by the Panthers in the Elite League.

February: Leigh Wood loses on points to Jazza Dickens in the semi-final of the Golden Contract.

March: A surreal sight at Southwell as March brings covid closure to sporting events.

March: The City Ground is empty and Forest are without fixtures as the UK enters lockdown.

June: During a third month of lockdown Josh Burkitt runs 31 half marathons in 31 days for charity.

June: Football returns after 105 days for Nottingham Forest in more empty surroundings than usual.

July: Cricket readies its delayed start due to covid as the Nottinghamshire team get into training.

July: Mansfield Town offer their support of the NHS during the pandemic with rainbow styled shirts.

August: Notts County are beaten at an empty Wembley by Harrogate in the National League Playoff Final.

September: Beeston win the T1 England Hockey Championships after beating Clifton Robinsons in the final.

September: Basford United’s youngsters beat Alfreton Town 7-1 to march through in the FA Youth Cup.

October: Notts Outlaws become Vitality Blast Champs after a stunning victory over Surrey at Edgbaston.

October: Chris Hughton is named as Nottingham Forest Manager replacing Sabri Lamouchi.

October: Nottingham Panthers Motorpoint Arena paints a thank you note to the NHS.

October: A wall outside Notts County’s Meadow Lane Ground is painted as a thank you to the NHS.

October: Carlton Town make a splash in the rain during their appropriate league clash against Leek.

November: Nottingham Wildcats Basketball legend Siobhan Prior lines one up at the bucket.

November: The One Call Stadium Field Mill looking fabulous under the lights.

November: Racing on Southwell’s all weather track.

November: Nigel Clough becomes Manager of Mansfield Town after replacing Graham Coughlan.

December: Basford United players celebrate during a 5-0 win in the FA Trophy over Rushall Olympic.

December: For the first time since the 60’s two league matches simultaneously take place Trentside.

December: Worksop born Lee Westwood ends the year winning golfs prized race to Dubai.
