Basford United have announced the re-signing of striker Kieran Wells on a short-term deal from Sherwood Colliery.<\/p>\n

Wells need no introduction to the United faithful having played a huge part of the side that gained promotion from the Northern Premier League South Division in 2018, scoring 17 times after joining midway through the season.<\/p>\n

An honest, hard-working centre forward, the 28-year-old has had a stellar non-league career, appearing for Town\u2019s Ilkeston, Grantham and Hednesford, Frickley Athletic and Stalybridge Celtic, among others during his time since.<\/p>\n

Wells leaves Debdale Park having helped Colliery secure promotion to the Northern Counties East Premier League at the end of the 2020-21 pandemic-hit season and even scored against Basford in the Nottinghamshire Senior Cup tie last month.<\/p>\n

On his arrival, he said: \u201cIt it\u2019s a great feeling to be back to the hometown which carries a lot of history and memories from both personal and football point of view.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve obviously played at – and against – Basford for several years now since I left the first time round and I\u2019m now as eager as ever to get going again.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fans will remember me from when I was last here and what I can do,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

\u201cChetts has brought back some of that self-belief in myself after speaking with him and hopefully I can repay him by scoring goals and trying to get us back into the play-offs.<\/p>\n

United boss Steve Chettle added: \u201cI\u2019m delighted to have Kieran back with us. Obviously, he\u2019s been with us before and will be very well-known to the fans and some of the players, too.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve known of Kieran for a while but never worked with him. However, I think we\u2019re all aware of what he can bring; his experience, enthusiasm, style, and everything else that he can bring to our football club at the minute.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s a character and knows the league very well,\u201d added Chettle. \u201cHe\u2019s played at this standard with two or three other clubs, including his time here before.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have experience with Aaron O\u2019Connor, but he\u2019s struggled with injuries, and we\u2019ve had the young ones who have fought really hard for us.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut Kieran has that extra bit of know-how, guile, experience and all the tools to get us back where we want to be.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019ll be someone that\u2019ll is a focal point at the top of the pitch, and we\u2019re hoping he brings goals with him as well \u2013 it\u2019s a real positive to have him back and we\u2019re all looking forward to working together.<\/p>\n

Wells will be readily available for the visit of Atherton Collieries in the Northern Premier League on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, Niall Towle has joined Carlton Town on short-term loan deal.<\/p>\n

The 20-year-old only returned to United after a stint at Corby Town at the start of the season but will head to the Bill Stokheld Stadium for a month.<\/p>\n

Towle has featured nine times in all competitions this season.<\/p>\n
