Team GB Ice Hockey were well beaten by Denmark in front of 6,000 fans at the Motorpoint Arena, Nottingham yesterday afternoon.<\/p>\n
The Danes eventually winning most comfortably 8-0, were much too strong for a GBR side who included a number of familiar names in their roster.<\/p>\n
Netminder Jackson Whistle these days of Belfast Giants, a former Nottingham Panther with forwards Rob Lachowitz and Brett Perlini also previously of the Panthers, all getting good receptions from the local fans in attendance.<\/p>\n
Matthew Myers and Josh Tetlow very much part of the Panthers roster these days, also getting ice time against the Scandanavians in warm up to the World Championships which start later this week.<\/p>\n
After a 2-0 defeat against the same opposition in Coventry the day previous, Denmark took seven minutes to open the scoring in Nottingham with Morten Poulson providing the games first goal.<\/p>\n
Joachim Blichfield who scored in Saturday\u2019s win, then grabbed his second of the weekend and made it 3-0 before the first period was out.<\/p>\n
The second twenty minutes didn\u2019t get much better for GB with a goal after just 38 seconds from Ehlers before Blichfield got his hat-trick to make it five, Nicolai Meyer than grabbed two in succession to score the Danes seven up ahead of the third.<\/p>\n
As Jackson Whistle got the sticks for the final period things did improve slightly for team GB but not enough to stop Joachim Blichfield netting a fourth goal of the game and eighth for Denmark. The San Jose Sharks star impressing in a player of the game performance.<\/p>\n
Next up for GB is the small matter of the World Championship in Finland. The team open up Group B against the Czech Republic in their first match before taking on Norway a day later. Further matches against Sweden, USA, Finland, Latvia and Austria make up the eight team strong group.<\/p>\n
