Nottingham Wildcats legend Siobh\u00e1n Prior has been announced as a Club Representative on the Women\u2019s British Basketball League board, taking up a new role in growing the sport in this country.<\/p>\n
A former England International who won a Commonwealth Silver Medal, a player who represented her hometown club winning countless silverware and who is currently Director of the Academy Wildcats, is one that is said to be \u201cAn advocate for gender quality, Siobh\u00e1n involves herself in a lot of work that promotes and empowers young girls, young women and also female adults to be confident in finding their passions and following them without reservation.\u201d<\/p>\n
Prior who states on her own website \u201cI’ve been lucky to have had a number of life fulfilling successes but my journey to those successes has been anything but a straight line drive. It has taken left turns, right turns and complete 180s but ultimately I believe I’ll always get there in the end.\u201d She will take on a new role along with London Lions representative Mark Clark and current WBBL Chairman Jim Saker in working together to help the competition achieve ambitious long term goals, last year the league saw record attendances across Britain with over 10,000 supporters at last season\u2019s playoffs and that is set to rise again with the sports popularity growing further.<\/p>\n
On taking up her new position, Prior told the WBBL website \u201cI\u2019m excited and grateful to have been elected to the new WBBL Board and will work hard to represent the clubs and move the league forward. We are living in a pivotal time for Women\u2019s sport. That, combined with the growing opportunities our game is increasingly seeing, makes for a promising landscape of possibilities. As a league, we have to take these opportunities and build so we are ready to optimise on further chances in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n
In the league, things haven\u2019t gone quite so well in recent weeks for Nottingham Wildcats who themselves lie ninth and out of playoff contention in the top division of British Basketball.<\/p>\n
The Wildcats have won just twice this season in nine matches and were beaten most recently by Sevenoaks Suns 70-80 at the weekend but will hope to improve their record on Saturday as they take the trip to South Wales where they take on Cardiff Met Archers.<\/p>\n
