Nottingham Panthers 6-1 Guildford Flames<\/strong> (Elite League) 06.03.24<\/p>\n

The Nottingham Panthers sought redemption after last weekend’s defeats, particularly a 4-1 loss against the Guildford Flames. Eager to capitalize on their recent strong home form, the Panthers faced the Flames at the Motorpoint Arena. Positive news on the injury front included the return of Tyler Welsh, leaving only Ollie Betteridge and Westin Michaud sidelined. Unfortunately, Logan Neilson would be pulled from the lineup due to an injury. Rok Stojanovic guarded the net for the Panthers, while Taz Burman started for the Flames. With a near-full house, the anticipation for an exciting game was palpable.<\/span><\/p>\n

Period 1 \u2013 Clinical Panthers<\/strong><\/p>\n

The opening period started with physicality from both teams, featuring high-volume hits. The Panthers quickly made their mark as Mcgurty orchestrated a cross-ice pass to Luciani, who roofed the puck past Burman at 3:33, giving the Panthers a 1-0 lead with Lunsjo also grabbing an assist. Henbrant gave Roy a great pass but unfortunately his shot was saved. Both defences were playing well, highlighted by <\/span>A Simon Despres back check that broke up a great 2-on-1 chance for the Flames. Panthers kept up the great pressure as Anderson, Roy and Henbrant all had good chances to increase the lead.\u00a0 <\/span>Henbrant once again was dangerous, as he capitalized on a broken play, doubling the lead at 12:29. After a Dangerous board from Locke, a spirited fight between Locke and Pare energized the Motorpoint Arena. Despite a late penalty kill for interference, the Panthers finished the period 2-0 ahead. While the Flames looked dangerous, the Panthers effectively managed them, with the shots tallying 10-11 in favour of Guildford.<\/span><\/p>\n

Period 2 \u2013 Flames are rising<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Panthers continued their clinical play as Welsh and Pare combined for a zone entry, setting up Luciani for his second goal at 21:39. Despite additional chances, including a near miss from Luciani, the Flames built some momentum, but Rok held firm. Guildford maintained zone pressure, but quality chances were scarce. Towards the end of the period, both teams started trading chances as the game opened. The period concluded with Guildford having the better opportunities. Rok Stojanovic’s routine night included 22 saves. In the second frame Panthers only managed 2 shots but still came away winning the period 1-0.<\/span><\/p>\n

Period 3 \u2013 Job Done<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Panthers kicked off the third period with enthusiasm, with Lunsjo and Pare having close chances early on. Ryczek’s defensive prowess set up Otto for a goal at 43:28 as he made no mistake on the breakaway. Stojanovic showcased his skills with some crucial saves, but Lewis Hook found the net for Guildford at 47:11 after a patient play. Undeterred, the Panthers responded as Hugo Roy tapped home a tricky rebound at 49:56, extending the lead to 5-1. Assisted by Didrik Henbrant and Josh Tetlow.\u00a0 Anderson exited the game after an awkward fall. A strong period was ended with Lemay, Welsh, Luciani, and Lunsjo all buzzing for the Panthers. Finally, Otto sealed the game at 57:51 as the Flames breakout hit Henbrant\u2019s stick giving Otto time and space to pop the water bottle, making it a 6-1 victory.<\/span><\/p>\n
