To give you an understanding of just how tight the Midland Football League is right now, yesterday\u2019s leaders Newark Flowserve beat Selston in a cross Nottinghamshire derby match 3-2 but this morning the Lowlands based side lie second in the table after a 5-1 win by Heather St John\u2019s over Long Eaton see\u2019s the Leicestershire based team leapfrog them at the top.<\/p>\n
It was East meets West last night as Newark took the lead against their Nottinghamshire rivals currently bottom of the league due largely to the number of games in hand on those around them not to mention a bit of bad form. Zak Goodson put the homeside up striking in from 12 yards after a long throw into the box on 15 but Selston levelled just three minutes later when Rory Davis sent a looping cross over Smith-Eccles in the Newark goal for it to rebound in off a post.<\/p>\n
A tight first half was pleasing for new Selston manager Carl Moore and after a quick pep talk at the break it was the away side that came out of the blocks quickest in the second period when Ben Moore\u2019s deflected free kick on 55 dropped in off the bar.<\/p>\n
Two scrappy goals but two pleasing goals for the division\u2019s strugglers as Newark didn\u2019t know what had hit them.<\/p>\n
But there\u2019s a reason why good sides like Newark are in the position they are in and even when the chips are down they still have that bit of quality to come back. Ben Hutchinson levelled things up on 77 from ten yards before heading home two minutes later to ensure a scrappy but much needed three points would go the way of Newark.<\/p>\n
Credit to Selston though who look to have improved under their new Manager already in the short time he\u2019s been placed in charge, should they manage to make the six point gap on Lye Town above them and force themselves from the foot of the table towards safety that will be target met alone.<\/p>\n
Elsewhere in the BetVictor Northern Premier League South East Division Worksop Town were beaten 2-0 at Sutton Coldfield Town.<\/p>\n
In the nights East Midlands Counties League game Sherwood Colliery came from behind to beat Dunkirk to leapfrog their evenings opponents into second place in the table level on goal difference now just three points below leaders Eastwood Community but with three games in hand.<\/p>\n
Dunkirk netted from the spot early through Tyrell Shannon-Lewis before Liam Theakstone levelled for Sherwood on 26 with Gareth Curtis netting on 35 the home side dug in to take all three points in a goalless second half.<\/p>\n
In the EMCL League Cup last eight Kimberley Miners Welfare were beaten 3-1 at Belper United but West Bridgford are through to the semi finals after beating Clifton All Whites 3-1 with first half goals from Elliot King and Josh Rae before Ryan Smith pulled one back on 55 only for the home side to restore their two goal advantage on the hour through Lee Stevenson.<\/p>\n
Finally in the Central Midlands Arnold Town\u2019s match verses Swanwich was postponed as was Selston Reserves v Boynton Sports with the only match involving Notts clubs ending Teversal Reserves 1-1 Ashland Rovers.<\/p>\n
Tonight Retford United play AFC Bentley in the Black Dragon North Division whilst Carlton Town host Loughborough Dynamo in the BetVictor Northern Premier League South East Division.<\/p>\n
