After a transitional season of sorts last time around, SJR Worksop player-manager, Kyle Wesley, is looking for his side to aim for sixth, with three games left to play.<\/p>\n

Two of those games are against a Teversal side, also pushing for the sixth, as the Central Midlands Alliance Premier North duo aim to finish the season strong.<\/p>\n

In Worksop, Wesley has four seasons under his belt leading a side that has \u201can ultimate goal of giving local lads, extra opportunities,\u201d and, following a seventh-place finish in 2024, they continue to push that mantra.<\/p>\n

\u201cI knew what was needed, the ethos of the club, when I came in,\u201d began Wesley.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd it\u2019s certainly been a rollercoaster so far.<\/p>\n

\u201cLast season was a bit of a rebuild, but with three games left this season, we can push for sixth.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe second half to the season has been hard, with a lot of games.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been chock-a-block, a stop-start kind of run, but the work is paying off.\u201d<\/p>\n

A tough start to the current campaign did see SJR win just two of their first ten games, 3-0 at Staveley Miners Welfare Reserves (Joe Bean, Taylor Thackery, and Louis Colley netting), and 3-1 when home to Brodsworth Main (Joe Bean, Aaron Redfern, and Luke Tong with the goals).<\/p>\n

Winter saw just three games played between late November and late February but, the recent loss to Kinsley Boys aside, SJR are finishing strongly, having previously been unbeaten in eight, a run which saw six wins and two draws, dating back to late March.<\/p>\n

Highlights of that run include Notts derby successes over Ollerton Town away (3-0, Callum Edwards, Bean and Thackery scoring), a 2-0 derby success against visiting Worksop Town Reserves (Logan Liggins and Matthew Templeton), and a 6-1 win at RHP Sports (Callum Edwards hat-trick, Callum Haywood brace, and one for Liam Arnold).<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve always been good defensively,\u201d admitted Wesley.<\/p>\n

\u201cLast season we had the third best in the league, behind the top two (Doncaster City and Dinnington Town).<\/p>\n

\u201cWe just need to learn how to turn draws into wins, whilst playing more on the front-foot.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s something they look to do in their closing three matches of the 2025\/26 season, travelling to Teversal\u2019s Tomlin Personnel Park (2 May), before the return at their Rockware Glass Sports & Social Club home (5 May), before closing the campaign with a trip to AFC Bentley next weekend (9 May).<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been a pretty good season all round, and we know the game with Bentley will be a tough one,\u201d concluded the SJR boss.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith Teversal though, I know they\u2019re a good side, with some good players.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want nine points though, and there\u2019s no reason why we can\u2019t do that and finish the season on a high.<\/p>\n

\u201cTake this as fare as we can, before rebooting next season, and challenge for the top five.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s the aim.\u201d<\/p>\n

SJR Worksop travel to Teversal in the Central Midlands Alliance Premier North this coming Saturday (2 May) afternoon, KO 15:00.<\/p>\n
