Newark Flowserve made history last night reaching the semi-finals of the Notts FA Senior Cup for the first time in the clubs 119 year history after beating Eastwood Community 3-0 at Lowfields whilst Carlton Town, a team that have been here before most recently, beat Gedling Miners Welfare on penalties to also reach the last four.<\/p>\n
For Midland Football League side Newark they took just 13 minutes to take the lead against their East Midland Counties opposition when Lewis Brownhill netted his first goal for the club after a good passing move ended with a fine strike.<\/p>\n
Five minutes later Ben Hutchinson powered home a header from a Kyle Dixon corner to make it 2-0 and the victory was rounded off in the second half when Danny Meadows netted on 72.<\/p>\n
The match played in front of a healthy 177 supporters ended with home team celebrations as they became the first team in the County to reach the last four.<\/p>\n
Last seasons finalists Carlton will be hoping to go one better this year as they hope to add a fourth Senior Cup trophy to their cabinet. The Millers match verses Gedling was played at Radford FC due to the home team\u2019s Stoke Lane Ground unplayable due to the recent rain.<\/p>\n
It was the EMCL outfit who took the lead through Josh Thornton three minutes before half time and it looked to be enough to send \u2018the miners\u2019 through until just two minutes from time when the Northern Premier League side equalised with an Aaton Opaku penalty.<\/p>\n
That goal sent the tie to extra time and a shootout was needed to separate the two sides with Millers Goalkeeper Jack Steggles the hero of the night saving the decisive penalty in the sudden death shootout with the game at 5-4.<\/p>\n
