So the Hundred is up before it has started. The ECB have decided that the controversial new cricket competition, predicted by many to be doomed from the start, will not take off this season as planned due to the outbreak of coronavirus that has closed so many sporting competitions across the world down.<\/p>\n

Trent Rockets star studded men\u2019s team were supposed to launch their season on the 19th<\/sup> June against Birmingham Phoenix at Trent Bridge but that won\u2019t now happen as won\u2019t the ladies campaign which was due to start six days later, also postponed until 2021 for the same reason.<\/p>\n

Following the inevitable decision the ECB Chief Executive Tom Harrison said \u201cAll sectors of society are redeploying their thinking to how we help the country get out of this, rather than fulfilling the ambitions we might have for our certain sports.\u201d<\/p>\n

“In our case, the sacrifices we are making at the moment seem very small in comparison to what is happening in the big picture.”<\/p>\n

Cricket in the country is hopeful of a revised 1st<\/sup> June start but with a new competition already raising concern over congestion it was felt better to delay the start of the Hundred rather than cram it in to an already hefty schedule which is likely to see an awful lot of reduced cricket this summer.<\/p>\n

The red ball game should already now be in full flow, the white ball game is likely to be moved in order to take precedent with the Royal London Cup and T20 tournaments set to be staged towards the back of the summer months to ensure they fulfil an end result.<\/p>\n

For now however the Hundred will be put aside for this year which won\u2019t upset too many long-standing purists who are happy with the current formats the game already has to offer.<\/p>\n
