Nottingham Forest have announced that ex-England International defender Michael Dawson will stay with the club for another year as the 36-year-old extends his contract with the Reds for a third season since coming back home to the City Ground in 2018 following spells at Tottenham Hotspur and Hull City.<\/p>\n
Dawson started his career at Forest in 2002 and it was soon evident that the young North Yorkshireman had enough star quality to forge out a career at the top of the game moving to Tottenham Hotspur in 2005 for a combined fee of \u00a38m which also resulted in Andy Reid leaving the City Ground for White Hart Lane.<\/p>\n
Dawson played over 300 times for Spurs and represented England at U21, B and full levels before joining Hull City in 2014 before returning to Forest in a move he had hoped will see out his career.<\/p>\n
Having played 14 times in the Championship this season Dawson stated \u201cI always said when I came back through the door two years ago that I wanted to play as long as I can\u201d furthering \u201cI always wanted to finish my career at Nottingham Forest and with another year, hopefully I can do that\u201d.<\/p>\n
In his first spell Dawson racked up 91 appearances for Forest partnering the likes of Des Walker and Wes Morgan at the heart of the defence and since his return has played 28 times in league and cup matches but he adds more than just a back up centre half nearing the end of his career to his CV.<\/p>\n
The leadership skills and charisma around the club, the infection he has on younger players and his experiences in helping them to follow suit are just a few qualities that Dawson has with him now very much keen to move up in the club ranks, hinted for a possible coaching capacity in years to come.<\/p>\n
Dawson stated \u201cwe\u2019ve got nine big games to see where it can take us as and to see where we want to be as a football club and a city and we know where that is, back to the Premier League, but we\u2019ve got to earn the right to do that\u201d.<\/p>\n
