At 2pm on Sunday afternoon, an hour before kick off at Oakwell as Nottingham Forest needed just a point at bottom of the table Barnsley to secure a playoff position with two matches of the season left to play\u2026 30,000 sighs of \u2018oh no\u2019 mumbled across the internet as Sabri Lamouchi announced his team.<\/p>\n

The usual 4-2-3-1 was scrapped, in came an extra defender in what was obvious to \u2018everyone\u2019 that Forest would aim to play for a nil-nil.<\/p>\n

Why did he do it? The Coach has been labelled as \u2018negative\u2019 for often preparing his side not to get beat\u2026 Forest are one of the few teams \u2018better\u2019 off the ball this season than on it\u2026 Not many teams have that philosophy\u2026 Not many teams in the Championship play not to win\u2026 Forest set up to not get beat, in fear that by losing too many goals it may have an impact come the seasons final day\u2026 But this was bloody Barnsley\u2026 Bottom of the league? I understand measures to be taken in order not to go \u2018gung-ho\u2019 but come on\u2026 Barnsley?<\/p>\n

After the predictable 94th<\/sup> minute single goal loss Forest now have a scary final day of drama as they face a Stoke side with nothing to play for \u2018still\u2019 needing that point.<\/p>\n

Cardiff, level on points with the Reds have a \u2018gimmie\u2019 against Hull, whilst Swansea, three points short of Forest face Reading away, needing to overturn a five goal swing currently in the Reds favour.<\/p>\n

Whatever happens on Wednesday night\u2026 It now won\u2019t be easy for Forest\u2026 Checking radios and score apps as they go, should at any time the Reds be behind they\u2019ll be looking nervously over their shoulders working like stockbrokers to understand the mathematical equations of their destiny in real time.<\/p>\n

But I back Sabri to get it right\u2026 Because when Sabri gets it wrong\u2026 He often bounces back.<\/p>\n

We all remember Charlton Athletic and the horror show after Leeds\u2026 When we wrote off the Reds following defeat as they took on West Brom at the Hawthorns, but the never say die attitude in this team is what\u2019s got them to where they are today.. Forest have bouncebackability<\/em> and have proved it on more than one occasion. Now they need to prove once more…. Again.<\/p>\n

After Barnsley, Sabri Lamouchi stated \u201cWe didn\u2019t play so well and when you run less and don\u2019t win the duels, it is difficult.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ahead of Stoke he sighted \u201cWe have to be calm and now we have to think about the final game. Win or draw and we will play the play-offs then everyone will be happy.\u201d<\/p>\n

The question is now \u2018how does Sabri play his cards right\u2019? Not one for going for the jugular<\/em> he may feel now \u2018pressured\u2019 into at least \u2018trying\u2019 to play a bit? He may be stubborn and stick with what he\u2019s installed in his players all season long?<\/p>\n

For me the concern with Forest is that they are asked to defend for too long when clearly they aren\u2019t at the levels they need to be to see off the job and get clean sheets\u2026 That might not be critical v Stoke, but should the Reds make playoff football over two legs it will be essential when it comes to the overall result.<\/p>\n

If Forest \u2018do\u2019 make it\u2026 And they certainly still should\u2026 Then who\u2019s to say they aren\u2019t the side that \u2018everyone\u2019 will be wanting to avoid. Poor form will go out of the window in knockout football and the Reds it seems have coasted now for weeks\u2026 Perhaps Sabri knows this, for the first time after Barnsley (in a number of matches) he didn\u2019t use the word \u2018tired\u2019 in his post match interview\u2026 Knowing that his players conserved a lot of energy in simply \u2018parking the bus\u2019 all be it to little effect… Maybe he now knows in his head, with Samba, Cash, Lolley, rested for bigger things to come that ‘really’ everything is simply ok? Could it all just be ‘mind-games’ as the Reds relax ahead of facing Brentford, Fulham or West Brom?<\/p>\n

I personally don\u2019t think we\u2019ll get the same last day drama as we had verses Ipswich a couple of years back as the Reds are 25\/1 with bookies to fall out of the playoff zone, they don\u2019t usually get it wrong, and when under pressure\u2026 Neither does Sabri either.<\/p>\n
