Georgs Golovkovs is the next big name to leave Nottingham Panthers after yesterdays announcement that the EIHL season will most likely not get underway in December.<\/p>\n
25-year-old Latvian International Golovkovs, a centre who played 37 times last season following his move from Milton Keynes Lightening joins Swedish side Stromsbro IF and joins another former Panther Adam Deutsch in making the move.<\/p>\n
On hearing the news that the league cannot go ahead in December, Panthers Director of Hockey Gui Doucet said \u201cI was made aware a few weeks ago and the players were made aware that the league start for December was not likely to happen. It\u2019s disappointing, we\u2019ve been working hard since March to get something going, we\u2019re trying to keep guys happy and to make sure they have somewhere to play but in the mean time we really want to put the team on the ice and we really want to have these guys playing in a Panthers jersey but we have to respect the rules and what the government gives us\u201d.<\/p>\n
The reason that the Elite League season cannot get underway in December is because the sides involved need eight weeks to prepare for their pre-season which would start in November and with no real positive news for indoor sports to resume yet in the UK it is an impossible situation for preparing the league to start when originally re-scheduled.<\/p>\n
What is likely to happen is a shortened campaign that starts in the new year with a small playoff weekend but details are still to be finalised and agreed. The question now for Nottingham Panthers fans is will they have enough players to start a new season once the green light has finally been given?<\/p>\n
