It wasn\u2019t a great evening for our local teams in the Buildbase FA Vase Second Round last night as both Eastwood Community and Sherwood Colliery went crashing out after gallant attempts in pushing their opponents all the way.<\/p>\n
Both sides had tricky away ties and with postponements on Saturday ensuring a frustrating midweek match up and it all proved too much as the clubs Wembley dreams were dashed for another year at least.<\/p>\n
Eastwood travelled to Lutterworth Town of the United Counties League and in an entertaining match that went all the way James Jepson’s side twice came from behind to take the match into extra time.<\/p>\n
The home team opened the scoring on 25 minutes before Kieran Knight levelled things up on 41 after good work from Ben Wallis.<\/p>\n
All square at half time it didn\u2019t take Lutterworth long after the break to regain the lead when they struck on 47 but as the game looked to be heading for victory for the Leicestershire side Kieran Knight stepped up again to smash home in stoppage time sending the game in to an extra 30 minutes following wild scenes in the away teams dugout.<\/p>\n
Just as the game looked to be heading for penalties though Lutterworth got the breakthrough on 113 minutes and rounded things off in the final minute to go through winning 4-2.<\/p>\n
For Sherwood things ended just as miserably and they went behind against their hosts Clay Cross when a cross by Josh Scully went all the way on 25 minutes. Things improved on 31 when Jobe Shaw scrambled home from close range and as the game looked to be heading for extra time it was Josh Parfitt who headed home at the back post on 88.<\/p>\n
In stoppage time Grant Mitchell rounded things off with a low driven drive from outside the box sending the Derbyshire outfit into the third round.<\/p>\n
In better news AFC Mansfield scraped through their Northern Counties East League Cup Third Round game on penalties. After leading 2-0 through Luke Walker\u2019s early strike and Brandon Webster at the stroke of half time they were pegged back by the home side forcing the game to extra time but managed to net all their spot kicks with Parkin saving from Ben Algar and Ross Duggan netting the winner against his former club.<\/p>\n
Tonight Dunkirk travel to Worcester City in more FA Vase action off the back of the sad news that their fomer Manager Andy Freeman has passed away whilst Radford host Nottingham Forest U23\u2019s in a friendly match (7:45pm kick off) at Selhurst Street. Tickets are \u00a35 for adults, \u00a33 concessions and under 16\u2019s are free with a paying adult.<\/p>\n
In the Midland League Premier Division Selston host Haughmond whilst in the East Midlands Counties League Premier Division Kimberley Miners Welfare host Hucknall Town.<\/p>\n
