Basford United 2-1 Bamber Bridge<\/strong> (Northern Premier League) 17.10.20<\/p>\n

Basford United recorded back to back wins for the first time this season with a 2-1 win over Bamber Bridge.<\/p>\n

Matt Thornhill opened the scoring with a free-kick that found the top corner before Rev James opened his account for the season after the ball was kicked against him and ended up in the back of the net.<\/p>\n

The second half saw Bamber Bridge on the front foot and they pulled a goal back through Danny Forbes but they were unable to break down a resolute Basford back line who did well to limit the visitor\u2019s chances.<\/p>\n

Basford United got off to a very quick start and forced William Marment into a save through\u00a0 James with 35 seconds on the clock before Kane Richards had an effort blocked. From the resultant corner they had the ball in the back of the net but it was quickly ruled out for a foul.<\/p>\n

Up the other end Bamber Bridge had a chance of their own as Mark Yeates found some space but his effort was wide of the post. That chance came before\u00a0 Forbes looked to go through on goal but the pass for the number four was overhit.<\/p>\n

The game had its first goal on the ten-minute mark. Kane Richards did well to create some space on the edge of the box before being taken down by George Thomason. That left Thornhill to step up and curl the ball inside the near post and into the top corner.<\/p>\n

It was 2-0 just four minutes later with a bit of fortune about the goal. James chased down a loose ball and was beaten to it by Marment but the \u2018keepers\u2019 clearance hit the Basford forward and looped into the back of the net.<\/p>\n

Bamber Bridge then had a spell of pressure as they searched for a way back into the game but their efforts were tame as Yeates\u2019 free-kick was easily saved before Callum King-Hames\u2019 effort was dealt with by Preston. The visitors were almost gifted a way back into the game just after the half hour mark when a mix up at the back gave the ball to Isaac Sinclair but Stef Galinski managed to deny him a shot at a vacant net.<\/p>\n

Straight up the other end a mix up between the visiting back line gave Basford a corner that was cleared off the line following Richards\u2019 header.<\/p>\n

Basford then put together a great passing move at the end of the half but they could not end the half with a third as Kyle Dixon headed over the bar.<\/p>\n

The second half saw Basford continue their impressive performance. Dixon found himself in space down the right after he beat a defender, and the midfielder picked out Niall Towle but he could only guide the ball over the cross bar.<\/p>\n

Bamber Brdige then had their best effort of the game. Yeates did well down the left and picked out Danny Forbes but he rushed the effort and fired it well over the Basford cross bar. But the frontman made no mistake with his next chance. He was left unmarked in the middle and he guided a cross into the bottom corner.<\/p>\n

That goal did not spark a fight back from Bamber Bridge as would have been expected with Basford limiting them to them to no real chances until deep into added time when a corner was cleared off the line by Galinski.<\/p>\n
