{"id":7579,"date":"2020-12-17T08:50:57","date_gmt":"2020-12-17T08:50:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nottinghamsport.com\/?p=7579"},"modified":"2020-12-17T08:50:57","modified_gmt":"2020-12-17T08:50:57","slug":"remembering-tom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nottinghamsport.com\/index.php\/2020\/12\/17\/remembering-tom\/","title":{"rendered":"Remembering Tom"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nottingham Rugby have issued a statement following the tragic loss of Tom Miller, a player who had recently signed his first professional contract with the Green &amp; Whites having come through the Nottingham Trent University rugby programme.<\/p>\n<p>Tom, who was studying business management at NTU, died on the 7<sup>th<\/sup> December from a head injury due to a tragic accident.<\/p>\n<p>Following their loss, Tom\u2019s family have set up a fundraising page for Oddballs Charity, a charity which Tom was very much involved in himself, helping to raise funds and awareness for testicular cancer, and through Just Giving, the family have already raised over \u00a340,000 in Tom\u2019s memory.<\/p>\n<p>To get involved and support the charity <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justgiving.com\/fundraising\/tommymiller\/%C2%A0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">click here<\/a>\u00a0and show your support.<\/p>\n<p>Head Coach of Nottingham Rugby Neil Fowkes issued the following statement earlier today \u201cWe were deeply saddened to hear the news about Tom last weekend.\u00a0 Having worked with him for the past five years at NTU and more recently at Nottingham Rugby we knew him to be a happy, vibrant and dedicated young man. Our thoughts are with all of his family &amp; friends at this time and whilst it won\u2019t bring Tom back, it\u2019s great to see the rugby community supporting Tom\u2019s work with the Oddballs Foundation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tom&#8217;s mum Emily said yesterday following the huge support in donations received to their Just Giving page &#8220;Well we are just in awe, that so many people who didn&#8217;t know Tom and what he was really about, have donated in his name. Thank you so so much.
