Saul Deeney won\u2019t forget his 22nd birthday celebrations in a hurry while with Notts County.<\/p>\n

In this week\u2019s Magpie Circle podcast, Saul recalls how his family had all flown over from Ireland to watch him in League Two action against Kidderminster at Meadow Lane in 2005.<\/p>\n

A big night out was planned \u2026 and Saul was voted man of the match in the game.<\/p>\n

Sadly, though, he got sent off in the closing stages after an altercation with a Kidderminster opponent and Notts lost 3-1.<\/p>\n

Deeney made over 50 appearances during a five year stint with Notts.<\/p>\n

He arrived as a raw 16-year-old from Ireland – one of 13 children.<\/p>\n

And a fierce work ethic instilled into him by his family, saw him regularly volunteer for more apprentice jobs around the ground with the senior squad to earn more money.<\/p>\n

Deeney continues to live in Nottingham and now works for the club\u2019s Foundation programme as a youth coach and mentor. He still plays for Coalville Town.<\/p>\n
