NSL Roundup: Goals Galore & Cup Draw

Let’s talk about goals shall we? Really, let’s do, as the Euro Soccer Nottinghamshire Senior League is bursting at the seams with them this season, with a number of high-scoring games at the weekend, and with a good portion of substitutes also registering.

The highest scoring of Saturday’s fixtures, that belonged to East Leake Robins down in Division 2 South, as they routed their hosts, The Rossoneri, 13-1, or as they put on their socials the morning of the game “Today we are away against unknown Serie C newcomers.”

Thirteen there, a further ten came at Radcliffe as they defeated Meden Vale Colts 8-2 9Bassey Okon with three), whilst there were nine goals bagged at a further four games – Rushcliffe 4 Phoenix Inham 5, FC Mansfield 5 Trent Vineyard 4, Shirebrook 6 Ravenshead Reds 3, and Bingham Town Reserves 4 Lord Bennington 5; they never stopped.

Anyway, let’s jump up to the Premier Division, it was relatively quiet there, although Sandiacre Town did bag half a dozen goals themselves, Alex Beno with a brace in a 6-1 win away to Bilborough Town, the visitors registering three times in each half.

Brent Horton helped himself to a hat-trick, including a penalty, as Ravenshead comfortably saw off visitors Aslockton & Orton 5-0, Perris Thomas and Martin McDonagh also registering, whilst the games between FC Sez and Attenborough (2-2), and Woodthorpe Park Rangers and Southwell City (1-1), finished in score draws – Cameron Thurgood and George Chetwynd both scoring twice in the first of the draws.

There would be an entertaining, high-scoring draw witnessed in the First Division, FC Geordie, leading 3-0 at the break against visitors Gedling Southbank, were pegged back and only gained a point when being held 4-4, Dom Lynas had scored twice for the hosts, but, a second-half treble from Gianfranco Ciaurro stole a share of the spoils.

Bubba Cesay, Jacob Gunn and Shaun Smith all notched braces as their respective sides, Radford Reserves, Top Valley, and Beeston Old Boys Association, all won on the road, at Kimberley Miners Welfare (5-1), Kirton Brickworks (4-2), and Pythian (3-1) respectively.

Now, back to those high-scoring matches in the lower echelons of the NSL, and to East Leake Robins, where Ashley Way would find himself delighting in a double hat-trick, his six being added to by Mason Bell with four, and James Dalton two, Tom Hardy with the other, The Rossoneri being truly routed, 13-1.

Of the four games which saw nine goals scored, Shirebrook would win 6-3 at home to Ravenshead Reds, Kieran Darby scoring three; the remaining three matched all finished 5-4, two of whom were away wins.

FC Mansfield were the only side to win 5-4 at home, the Division 2 North side seeing off Trent Vineyard with three from Ryan Dakin; Gaston Vazquez bagging a brace in vain in reply.

Kia Leivers and Jake Marshall scored doubles in their respective wins, Phoenix Inham at Rushcliffe, and Lord Bennington and Bingham Town Reserves, (Thomas McRobie also scored twice), and Rares-Madalin Fratila was at the double in Fenwood Foxes’ 5-1 win away to Beeston Reserves.

The draw has also been made for the Euro Soccer NSL Cup First Round, ties to be played on Saturday 18 September, and are as follows:

Meden Vale Colts vs. Sandiacre Town; Ravenshead vs. FC Cavaliers; Beeston vs. FC Sez; AFC Dunkirk vs, Radcliffe; Stapleford Town vs. Kirton Brickworks; West Bridgford vs. Cotgrave; Top Valley vs. Ilkeston Town FCB; Gedling Southbank vs. Attenborough; Southwell City vs. Bingham Town.
