Panthers Beaten By Ferencvarosi
Ferencvarosi TC 3-2 Nottingham Panthers (Continental Cup Group E) 16.11.19
Nottingham Panthers were beaten in their second match of the IIHF Continental Cup as Ferencvarosi of Hungary proved too strong at the Fros Arena in Vojen, Denmark.
The Hungarians took the lead five minutes into the first period when Nagy deflected the puck past Jackson Whistle in the Panthers goal. Whistle who got the nod ahead of in-form Kevin Carr made a good glove save moments later after a turnover in the defensive zone.
That saved spurred the Panthers on as within a minute Jake Hansen weaved through the Ferencvarosi team to lay the puck to Brett Perlini who tapped into the open goal to level the match at one each.
Nottingham went close through Quist who was denied by Arany before a powerplay to Panthers after Pulli tripped Betteridge but despite the one man advantage the Panthers couldn’t get the breakthrough to end the first period tied.
The second period started well for Panthers with Arany saving well from Tetlow then Quist before Sam Herr forced another save during a powerplay against Rantanen with Bulmer hitting a post as things just wouldn’t drop.
As Panthers huffed and puffed it was Ferencvarosi who went up the other end and blew the house down when Roczanov finished a good move before Nagy got his second of the evening smashing home a rebound off the back of the bar.
Panthers forced further saves from Arany before Whistle kept the score down to close the half with all to do in the third and final period for Nottingham.
The last period didn’t start well for Panthers as Connolly received a two minute penalty before Herr and Bulmer went close when back at full strength. Quist again tested Arany’s glove work whilst at the other end Whistle saved with his head following a Ferencvarosi break and as Whistle was pulled for an extra attacker Sam Herr found a loose puck to fire home with just over 2 minutes to play but the Hungarians held on to victory ensuring Nottingham will need to win the third and final game tomorrow to have a chance of qualification to the finals in January.
