Forest Fire Into Top Four
After a second successive defeat against Huddersfield Town on the 21st December completing a miserable five game winless run for Forest Sabri Lamouchi’s men had a Christmas to remember as they saw out 2019 and started 2020 with winning momentum securing three wins from three and taking a maximum nine points over the festive and New Year period.
The Reds won their first game in six on Boxing Day with a 2-0 away win at Hull City thanks to two Lewis Grabban goals and three days later Forest secured successive clean sheet victories thanks to a scrappy 1-0 win over Wigan where Tobias Figueirdo headed home the winner before Brice Samba saved a late Josh Windass penalty.
Ending 2019 with victory at the City Ground they began 2020 with the same winning feeling beating Blackburn Rovers 3-2 in an entertaining match at the City Ground thanks to Joe Lolley who’s cross evaded everyone to open the scoring before Lewis Grabban scored his second brace of the holiday season (between replies from Stewart Downing and a Joe Worrall own goal) to take his tally to 14 league goals this campaign.
After the win against Blackburn Coach Sabri Lamouchi stated “Nine points, three victories. We finished last year in the best way. We start the new year in the best way. Three victories in a row – nine points – and I can’t ask for more.”
Forest now lie in fourth position on 43 points level with Brentford in third but with a game in hand and now nine points behind leaders Leeds United and second spot West Bromwich Albion who both have 52 points.
The Reds have a busy January with a trip to Reading on the 11th followed by the visit of Luton on the 19th and a return match at home to Reading on the 21st following an earlier season postponement of the same match. Forest end the month at home to Brentford a club they are very much tussling with in the promotion push but before that the Reds take on Chelsea for the third successive season in cup action as they head top Stamford Bridge for the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday.
