Comfortable Win As Basford Go Third
Basford United 3-0 Bamber Bridge (Northern Premier League) 11.01.20
Basford United made it back to back wins with a 3-0 win over Bamber Bridge.
Nat Watson opened the scoring just after the half hour mark with a well hit free-kick. Ash Worsfold doubled the lead with a close-range effort seven minutes before half time. In the second half the visitors piled on the pressure but failed to create any real chances and fell further behind in the 88th minute when Watson wrapped up the win with his second goal.
Basford United made one change from the side that beat Grantham Town last time out. Matt Thornhill was replaced by Watson.
The first real chance of the game fell the way of the visitors in just the fifth minute. Danny Forbes found himself with time and space to fire goalwards but Basford ‘keeper Kieran Preston was equal to the effort.
Basford then thought they had taken the lead just before the quarter of an hour mark. Kane Richards did well to find Worsfold in the middle and the striker guided the ball into the back of the net only for the assistant referee to rule it out for offside.
The game then hit a period where both sides struggled to gain control of the game, with loose passes being more common than successful ones. It was not until the 32nd minute that the game saw any real quality. Watson stepped up to fire in a free-kick via the hand of visiting ‘keeper Danny Roccia.
Just six minutes later it was 2-0. Richards played in Dom Roma and his low cross was into the path of Worsfold to slot it into the back of the net to give Basford a two-goal advantage at the break.
The second half started slowly with neither side creating any real chances. James Reid’s cross was ahead of the on rushing Worsfold. Up the other end Matthew Dudley headed a cross from the left well over the bar.
With little over 20 minutes left on the clock the visitors began to push forward. And after a period of sustained pressure Danny Wisdom let fly from range only for Preston to tip it wide of the post. Minutes later a corner for the visitors was flicked onto the post before Basford scrambled the ball clear.
Up the other end Watson was inches away from his second of the game, with just ten minutes left to play. The forward found himself in space and curled a low effort goalwards. It beat Roccia but drifted just past the post.
Watson did have his second with just two minutes left to play. The forward ended a good move by firing into the bottom corner to wrap up the win.
