Rainworth Beaten By Barrow
Rainworth Miners Welfare 2-4 Barrow Town (East Midlands Counties League) 09.02.20
Rainworth Miners Welfare fell to a 4-2 home defeat at home to fellow middle table side Barrow Town. Second half goals from Henry Dunn and Conor Brown-Wingfield were enough to seal the victory for the visitors at a windy Tomlin Personnel Stadium.
Barrow Town took the lead in the 12th minute with the wind behind their backs. Barrow winger Samuel Moore was allowed to drive down the left wing, cut inside and pull off a tame shot along the ground. Fortunately for the visitors, Wrens keeper Josh Hollis was miss sighted and couldn’t prevent the ball from dribbling into the bottom left corner.
Rainworth managed to get themselves level in the 23rd minute through a coolly taken Lewis Weaver goal. A well picked pass from Harris played Weaver in on the left. The winger had time to take the ball round the on-rushing Barrow Town keeper to slot into an empty goal and level the scores.
In the 32nd minute the visitors came close to retaking their lead. A Jordan Holmes cross to the near post proved difficult to deal with as centre back Chris Timmons missed his header. Fortunately for Timmons, keeper Hollis reacted well to collect the ball and prevent Pradeep Bahrey from slotting into an empty net.
Just one minute later and Barrow were able to find the back of the net for the second time. A right sided pass from Henry Dunn teed up midfielder Jordan Holmes who arrowed his first time shot on the edge of the box into the top left corner.
With the wind blowing to their advantage, it took just five minutes for Rainworth to find the back of the net in the second half. A precise through ball from Alex Sennett found attacker Dec Brewin in the box. Brewin was able to hold off the defender before slotting into the bottom left corner via the inside of the post to drag the home side level.
The games fifth goal came in the 65th minute as Barrow Town re-took their lead. A troubling cross from the right wing by Sam Kee was flicked over the keeper from close range by Dunn to make it 3-2.
Barrow Towns fourth came in the 76th minute through striker Conor Brown-Wingfield. Dunn played a pass over the Wrens defence and Brown-Wingfield was able to dink the bouncing ball over the head of Josh Hollis and into the back of the net, securing the three points for the visitors.
Rainworth Manager Lewis Saxby was critical of his sides defending. He said: “The goals were our fault today; we can’t continue to concede those type of goals. We have three or four chances to clear the ball and we don’t do it.” Saxby continued: “We were our own downfall today; the wind was strong but Barrow dealt with it.”
Barrow Town next face a tough test as the travel to Heanor Town in the East Midlands Counties League. Next, Rainworth face a cup tie at home to Ingles on Tuesday night in a competition that Saxby sees as a priority. He said: “It is a priority on Tuesday. We aren’t going up and we aren’t going down, so we’ve now got a semi-final to play for in a couple of days.”
