Roberts “Settling In”

Callum Roberts has been at Notts County little under a month but the 22-year-old has settled in very quickly to life at Meadow Lane.

Since arriving from Blyth Spartans in January, the winger has started three of Notts’ four games and was quick to praise him team mates after the 1-1 draw with Woking on Saturday for helping him settle in so well at the club.

“I’m loving it (my time at Notts),” he said. “I’ve settled in straight away; the lads have been great.

“There’s a lot of characters in the dressing room and I’m one of the northerners so they’ve been trying to do the accent- Jim (O’Brien) has a good one. It all helps you settle in quicker.”

Roberts a tricky winger with an eye for goal who did his education at Newcastle United was also thankful to the Notts fans for the impact they’ve had so far in his short time at Meadow Lane.

“The fans are also a massive help,” he said. “When you’ve got 5000 of them who want to see you do well and cheering for you it’s a massive boost.”

Roberts was man of the match against Woking with some supporters stating he was “head and shoulders the best player on the pitch” after a fantastic performance of classic wing wizardry only to be frustrated by the team not taking all three points.

Despite an impressive start to life at Notts, Roberts believes he still has more to offer.

He said; “I feel like every week I’m making strides. It’s just about getting up to the speed of the game because it’s a lot quicker than what I’ve come from and It’s a massive step up.

“But I’m getting there and hopefully my performances are showing that. But there is still more to come.”

The former England U20 international is still looking for his first Notts County league goal although he has had a hand in a number already including Saturday’s equaliser when he jinked in and out of the opposition defence before crossing low for Wootton to pull back for Dennis to level things up.

Here’s hoping as the settling in period continues that Roberts will continue to improve and that first goal won’t be too far around the corner, perhaps even against Hartlepool United on Saturday as he returns to his native North East in a match where Notts can hopefully continue building  on their promotion push.
