Panthers Fans Told – No New Signings Yet

Nottingham Panthers have today issued a statement of ‘don’t panic’ to their fans due to the lack of activity in recent months which they have had in the transfer market.

The club have suggested “There will be no signing news from us until there are developments to the governmental advice on indoor events & mass gatherings.”

“We believe it would be irresponsible to act otherwise. Please stay patient & follow the guidelines until we can all be together again.”

This statement follows questions from fans following a number of announcements made by the clubs bitter rivals Sheffield Steelers today on new signings they have made with half a dozen or so players putting pen to paper with them for next season.

With no news on when the start of the new campaign will be, the Panthers will not be tempted to make any rash decisions and will instead bide their time until the EIHL (and government) make their announcements.

In an interview with BBC Radio Nottingham yesterday Panthers owner Neil Black said “It’s very difficult at the moment (to plan ahead), we are having meetings every week with the league to discuss all the issues with clubs, most of which are trying to plan for season 2020/21.” Black continued “we are working very hard with Nottingham Arena, a plan for going forward, everybody is up for starting as soon as it’s possible, and everyone is looking forward to the challenge of the new season”.

When asked on his opinion when the league would start Black stated “at the moment, subject to government approval the plan would be to kick off the season with the Magic weekend in October” suggesting “we will then play through until the end of April, early May with a proposal to move the World Championships by two weeks”.

Regarding signings, the Club Chairman Black was clear to state nothing is announced hastily saying “there is a lot going on behind the scenes, we do have a number of players all firmed up for next season, but I don’t want to be making premature announcements about players coming back until we have certainty about when the season starts”.
