The first round of the Carabao sponsored Football League Cup has been made today with Nottingham Forest drawn against Barnsley at Oakwell in a match-up that might bring back disappointing memories for fans wanting to forget what happened in the two teams last outing in June.

As Forest needed just a point to secure a playoff slot in their seasons penultimate game they fell to a stoppage time loss before losing 4-1 at home to Stoke with Barnsley eventually staying up thanks to their own made miracle in taking six points from their final two games.

Mansfield Town will also feature in the Carabao Cup and they head to Deepdale as the Stags face Preston North End of the Championship with all first round ties scheduled to take place over the first weekend in September.

As well as finding out their League Cup opponents Mansfield also discovered their Football League Trophy destiny today as they were placed in a group that includes Lincoln City, Scunthorpe United and Manchester City under 21s in the Northern Section of the competition.

On a busy day for the football scheduling authorities the FA also released the balls for this seasons FA Cup competition with the Preliminary Round and the Extra Preliminary Round draw made which is due to start on Tuesday 1^st September 2020.

Newark FC who play in the FA Cup for the first ever time will host Deeping Rovers in the Extra Preliminary Round whilst Carlton Town take on Loughborough University at Stoke Lane.

Radford host Shepshed Dynamo whilst Selston travel to Bottesford Town and in an intriguing local derby AFC Mansfield will entertain Sherwood Colliery.

In another derby game West Bridgford will play Dunkirk with the winners of each tie in the competitions opening round of fixtures pocketing £1,125 with no replays at the stage for the first time.

The winning teams will move into the Preliminary Round which starts on September 12^th with Worksop Town facing the winners of Anstey Nomads v Sleaford Town, all fixtures involving Notts clubs in the Extra Preliminary Round have been announced so each team will know who they play should they overcome their first match.
