Basford & Eastwood Share Spoils

Basford United 1-1 Eastwood Community (Friendly) 18.08.20

Basford United’s pre-season continued with a 1-1 draw at home to Eastwood CFC. After a goalless first half both sides struck inside the opening 10 minutes of the second half with Kieran Knight’s penalty cancelling out Niall Towle’s opener.

Eastwood started the game quickly and with just a minute they struck the post with an effort from outside the area. Basford new boy Marcus Marshall then glanced ahead over the bar up the other end as neither ‘keeper was forced into any action inside the opening 10 minutes.

The game then hit a lull as both sides played some attractive football but again failed to create any real chances. Eastwood had a couple of corners that were easily dealt with and up the other end Basford saw crosses from both wings over hit.

A corner on 22 minutes then saw Basford come close but a trialist headed over the bar, before James Carvell had an effort saved by the Eastwood ‘keeper. After the drinks break it was Eastwood who had the next chance. Tyrell Shannon-Lewis went through on goal and forced Kieran Preston into a fantastic save.

Marshall then looked to have his first Basford goal when his flicked header beat the ‘keeper but it went wide of the far post. At the end of the half it was another summer signing who went close for Basford. Fullback James Clifton picked the ball up on the edge of the box and forced the visiting ‘keeper into another good stop.

The second half saw Basford take the lead just three minutes after the restart. Rev James got to the by-line and pulled the ball back for Niall Towle to scramble it home.  It was short lived though as Knight levelled proceedings from the penalty spot on 55 minutes after a handball from Stef Galinski.

Knight continued to trouble Basford found himself after bursting away from the host’s back line but no one was on the end of his cross. Up the other end James again found his way to the by-line but his cut back was palmed away by the Eastwood number one.

After the second half drinks break, Basford had the first real chance. James again showed some good pace before seeing a curling effort blocked. Galinksi then looked to make up for giving the penalty away but his headed effort bounced into the floor and over the bar.

Basford then had a great chance to move into the lead. A cross from Dom Roma was knocked into the path of James but his effort was blocked. Towle did get to the rebound but his effort was easily held as the game ended with the score 1-1.
