Notts Dispose Of Barnet After Scare

Notts County 4-2 Barnet (National League) 10.10.20

It was a second successive league win of the season for Notts County who beat Barnet at Meadow Lane in an entertaining match that had everything from domination by the home side to relief for Neal Ardley’s men after the Magpies were left clinging on towards the end of the game before a late goal wrapped up the points for the black and white stripes.

Cal Roberts was first to net, fourteen minutes in he grabbed his first of the campaign with a fine finish and three minutes later it was two when Kyle Wootton stabbed home on the second attempt. His third of the week.

Enzio, making his first start of the season made it three as Roberts raced down the wing to cut back for his fellow flanker Boldewijn who struck home inside twenty-three minutes, it was becoming a rout.

Credit to Barnet though who dug in, JJ Hooper pulled one back on the stroke of half time and as chances came and went he netted a second on 75 minutes to give County a scare with fifteen minutes of the match remaining.

Notts to their own credit might have wrapped things up when Rawlinson headed into the side netting or when O’Brien was denied by a last ditch defensive clearance but in the final minute Reeves crossed in for Michael Doyle who slotted home to round off a good days work and another big three points for Notts, critical in the cause of the Magpies promotion push.

After the match Neal Ardley, relieved to earn three points said “For thirty minutes we were breath-taking” stating “we lost our way and allowed them back in the game” but Notts after a disappointing start to the season last weekend at Dover have bounced back with back-to-back victories and will now head to Sutton United on Tuesday night full of confidence of making it three in a row.

County: Slocombe, Graham, Rawlinson, McCrory, Kelly-Evans, Boldewijn (O’Brien 67), Doyle, Reeves, Roberts (Brindley 90), Wootton, Rodrigues (Thomas 67).
