Wildcats Are Back
Finally, after a layoff lasting far too long since way back on March 8th in fact, the Nottingham Wildcats Womens Basketball team will be back in competitive court action tomorrow as they face Newcastle Eagles at the Wildcats Arena in Nottingham as the two teams from the top tier in the country tip off for a season opener in the Womens British Basketball League Cup North Group.
The match offers hope, promise and excitement for a team that has not been able to participate in its sport during covid-times so dusting off cobwebs and getting back on court at this time might be considered as 100% more important than the result.
And the Wildcats have been busy registering their roster for the coming season too as GB Junior Lilly Annim joins from Barking Abbey Basketball whilst Moa Lundqvist has confirmed she’ll be heading to Nottingham from San Francisco as the Swedish born star joins from the USF team nicknamed the Dons.
They’ll be familiar names too as last season’s American star Jasmine Joyner will be joined by Brit Shania Rose with 6ft3in German youngster Praise Adesuwa Egharevba returning and Portuguese guard Simone Costa also signing for a second season which this year they all hope to complete.
Amongst others, experienced GB International Shiobhan Prior will again return to the Wildcats for yet another campaign. Shiobhan’s mum Pauline who sadly passed away with cancer last year had also a huge part to play in the Nottingham side’s success over the years with the 33 year old stating “Being part of the Wildcats family is just part of who I am and have always been.”
“The club has a rich 40-year history that has always been based on a strong family ethos.”
“I’m lucky to have been part of it my whole life and I’m excited to continue to bring success to it, this season and for many years to come.”
The Wildcats host the Eagles in a closed-doors match which will start at 2:30pm on Saturday which you can watch here for free and will follow that up with a trip to Leicester Riders on November 21st in their second match of the Womens British Basketball League Cup.
