Stags Lose To Late Winner

Crawley Town 1-0 Mansfield Town (EFL League Two) 13.03.21

Mansfield Town lost in the worse possible way at Crawley Town as the Stags conceded a 92nd minute goal that meant they would take nothing back from Sussex home to Nottinghamshire.

An even first half saw chances at both ends, Stags striker Jamie Reid flicking up to overhead kick an effort easily palmed away by Morris before Nichols headed a corner straight at Stech who plucked from under his crossbar. Reid might have done better when Quinn crossed in from the left to head inches wide, some neat play from the home side followed Nichols curling from distance into the chest of Stech.

The second half saw Crawley as the most dominant, with intent, pushing for an opener as Archie Davies combined with Maguire-Drew down the left for Nichols who again forced Stech into a save this time down low to his left.

Joe McNerney then had what looked to be the home teams’ best chance, heading towards goal a corner that was cleared off the line, but in injury time, substitute James Tilley raced through to power home and give victory to John Yems team who move to tenth in the table after their third straight league win.

For Mansfield, now sixteenth, Manager Nigel Clough frustratingly said after “It just probably sums up where we are at the moment. We had a brilliant victory against the league leaders on Tuesday and then we go and give the game away in the final 30 seconds.”

Next up for the Stags, Carlisle United at the One Call Stadium on Tuesday night.
