Bingham Off To Winning Start

The Samba Nottinghamshire Senior League divisional cup competitions kicked off in style on Saturday afternoon, although Premier Division side, Bilborough Town, have withdrawn with immediate effect (their match with Woodthorpe Park Rangers being switched to a friendly instead).

Bingham Town would top score, in the Premier Division Cup, as Jay Archer scored twice at home to Aslockton & Orston, Tom Giles and Tom Spencer also registering in a 4-0 win, whilst the game between Keyworth United and Cotgrave finished all square, in a 2-2 draw.

Only one match was played out in Group B, Burton Joyce claiming a 2-0 win on the road at Southwell City, Nathan Francis scoring from the spot in the first, and Kirk Appleton wrapping up the win in the second; Magdala Amateurs meanwhile snatched a hard-fought victory away to FC Cavaliers, winning 2-1 in Group C.

The two matches in Group D meanwhile yielded ten goals, Ilkeston Town FCB won 3-2 away to Attenborough, Adam Gillott’s brace for the hosts proving in vain as Town struck through Seke Spence, Mitchell Tait, and Brontae Wint, whilst at Sandiacre, they also won 3-2 when hosting Asworth Villa, who led twice before losing, Jordan Leonardi bagging a brace for the victors.

In the First Division Cup, Beeston edged a five-goal thriller opposing visitors Stapleford Town Reserves, defender Brian Bubi opening the scoring on his debut whilst Tom O’Regan and Scott Pickard also notched.

Wollaton Reserves also scored three, well Preston Robinson did, he notching a hat-trick in his sides’ 3-1 win on the road at Kimberley Miners Welfare Reserves, James Duffy having scored for the hosts, and United Grays won 2-1 at West Bridgford, substitutes Luis Bastos and Aaron Gotheridge with the decisive goals.

Results in the other divisional cups would include a 4-3 victory for Beeston Development, away to Arnold Town Reserves in the Division Two North Cup; meanwhile AC United, and Bingham Town Reserves, both claimed comfortable, 7-0 victories, away from home, in Division Two South matches at Burton Joyce Reserves and Aslockton & Orston Reserves respectively.

As for the Foundation Division Cup, Netherfield Seniors edged what was an eight-goal thriller, when on the road to Calverton Town Reserves, Greg McLean with three and Liam Mallone two for the away side, and Wollaton III romped to a four goal success at home to Rushcliffe Ravens, the hosts being three goals to the good at the break.

Coming up, midweek (Wednesday) sees Gedling Southbank and Kirton Brickworks begin their respective, First Division Cup campaigns, at the former, whilst they both also play on Saturday, Gedling at Top Valley, and Kirton hosting Meden Vale Colts,

The Premier Division Cup will see Sandiacre travel to Ilkeston FCB, whilst Ravenshead get their campaign underway as they travel to Burton Joyce; Awsworth play host when they welcome Attenborough, and Aslockton will be looking to bounce back from their opening defeat when hosting Cotgrave.

Other First Division matches sees Beeston and Kimberley MW clash, and Ruddington Village welcome Rushcliffe Olympic, the latter two starting their cup campaigns, alongside matches in Division Two North, South, and the Foundation Division.
