Stags Hit Four To Beat Oldham
Mansfield Town 4-1 Oldham Athletic (EFL League Two) 01.05.21
Mansfield Town produced one of their best displays of the season to thump Oldham Athletic at Field Mill.
Tyrese Sinclair continued his superb run of form with a third goal in five games, the opener after just 12 minutes following good work by Jamie Reid who laid the youngster in to finish low inside the box.
On 38 minutes it was 2-0 as George Lapslie netted after prodding home a Stephen McLaughlin cross to give the home side a nice cushion at half time but that advantage was halved as Zachary Dearnley responded five minutes after the break. A calamitous error between Ryan Sweeney and goalkeeper Aidan Stone allowing the striker to poke home as the two Mansfield players collided.
As Oldham pushed themselves back into the game, Stags broke and late on George Lapslie got his second of the game and a third that would end any hopes of a comeback.
In the final two minutes Jamie Reid got on the scoresheet to wrap up what in the end was a fantastic day for Nigel Clough’s men. The Manager proud of his team stating “We’ve finished this strange old season on a high. The last two home games were two convincing, resounding victories.
“We scored seven goals in two games and that’s hopefully setting the tone for next season.”
There was a debut for youngster Jaden Charles who came on late on, whilst experienced left back Stephen McLaughlin played his first game, impressing, after signing a new deal with the club in the week.
The Stags will wrap up their season away at Port Vale next weekend.
