Six Unbeaten Notts Win In Wales
Wrexham 0-1 Notts County (National League) 18.05.21
It was a win in Wales for Notts County who move above Wrexham in the table to fifth place with Ian Burchnall’s side now just one win from securing a spot in the playoffs with two games to play.
A cracking start from the Magpies saw early pressure and a succession of corners laid siege on the Wrexham goal with Reeves seeing a shot blocked and Lainton saving from O’Brien in the opening fifteen minutes.
On 26 minutes the home side registered their first real attempt as Young hit inches wide but a minute later, another Jake Reeves special put Notts in front, a long range spectacular drive that had the goalkeeper sprawling.
That goal allowed Notts to defend their lead and Wrexham had their best spell of the half, before the break as one chance went inches wide before Ellis blocked a Davies goal bound effort.
The Tranmere loanee did well to challenge Omotayo on 40 minutes who’s shot looped off the big defender and over the crossbar, Notts with the odd scare a long the way still in the lead at the interval.
As the first half ended with Wrexham intent on finding a leveller, the second half continued in similar fashion as an early Davies free kick was straight at Slocombe before a collision with the goalkeeper forced him to have some treatment.
Wrexham pushed as Angus forced Slocombe to save low on 55 before Notts had their own spell of pressure, Kelly-Evans and Wootton both having shots at the home team goal.
Two further opportunities were wasted by the Welshmen before another stoppage due to an injury to Slocombe, the goalkeeper picking himself up to make a crucial late save on 87 with Notts holding out for a superb backs against the walls win.
Next up for Notts is the visit of Weymouth and the return of fans to Meadow Lane on Saturday. A win will see the Magpies guarantee themselves a spot in the playoffs.
