Notts Beaten By Surrey
Nottinghamshire travelled to Surrey and the idyllic settings of Guildford Cricket Club for their Royal London Cup Group B match but it was the home sides day as they won by the D&L method after rain interrupted play early into the Surrey innings.
At 28 for 1 in the eighth over the showers came and thereafter the match was reduced to 30 overs per side, Surrey eventually impressing their way to 311/8 with 131 from Ryan Patel and a half century for Jamie Smith doing the majority of the damage. Notts bowlers relatively expensive with a couple of wickets each for Brett Hutton & Dane Paterson.
In reply, chasing a revised 300 from 30 overs, Notts were flying along with the irrepressible Ben Slater smashing 69 from 48 and Sol Budinger firing 45 from 21 but when Budinger went with the scores on 71, a next over duck for captain Peter Trego and the quick wicket of Haseeb Hameed set Notts back hugely, Montgomery gave hope with a quick 29 before he was out, Paterson shortly after without scoring, but a resurgence from Joey Evison who scored 54 gave slim hope to the Outlaws, but it was too much too short when Slater eventually lost his wicket, Dane Schadendorf fought bravely to score 44 before Evison went late on, Notts eventually 33 short of target with Schadendorf and Fletcher remaining at the crease.
Not the result Notts had hoped for but plenty of chance to put that right, next up is two home matches at Welbeck this weekend, Friday see’s the visit of Somerset to North Notts whilst Sunday the Outlaws take on Leicestershire with tickets available for both matches on the gate.
