Woodhead Delighted With Retford Wins
Retford 3-1 Worsbrough Bridge Athletic (Northern Counties East Division One) 14.08.21
Choughs First Team manager, Chris Woodhead, was delighted with the performances shown by both the Seniors, and Development sides at the weekend, both of whom registered three goals apiece.
Hosting Worsbrough Bridge Athletic in the NCEL Division One, Woodhead’s side took the lead late in the first half through Joe Edwards, the visitors equalising midway through the second period, through Spenser Sheppard, to make for a nervy close.
It would not be until the final ten minutes however that the game was settled, and the hosts put their season opening defeat behind them, thanks to a pair of substitutions.
First Luke Abdy restored the lead, with nine minutes remaining before, and deep into stoppage, time, the points were assured, Yaya Dembele grabbing the hosts’ third in the 95th minute to claim a much-needed, 3-1 win.
Afterwards, manager Chris Woodhead said: “What a result!
“Well done lads, brilliant. Solid Performance.
“Great support again too, thank you to all that attended; we appreciate it.”
As for the Development side, they followed up their midweek, 4-2 win at home to 780 JLC, to come from behind at the break and earn a hard-fought draw with visiting Harworth Colliery.
Trailing by three at the interval, and having been captained superbly by 16-year-old Charlie Williams throughout, the young Choughs snatched a 3-3 draw with second half goals from Joel Ward, Liam Cross, and Kieran Taylor.
That point for the Development side also drew praise from the Seniors manager, he adding: “The Development lads have done the club proud again.
“3-0 down at Harworth with a very depleted side, managing to bring a point away with a 3-3 draw.
“A mention about 16-year-old Charlie Williams who captained the side and put in a captain’s performance.”
