Outlaws Collapse Out Of T20

Notts Outlaws were beaten by Hampshire Hawks in the Quarter Finals of the Vitality Blast at Trent Bridge on Wednesday night after a batting collapse chasing a relatively low target of 125.

It was the third time since 2014 that Hampshire won at Trent Bridge in the last eight of the competition and victory denies holders Notts the chance for another finals day on the 18th September at Edgbaston.

The Hawks were reduced to 125/9 after some top bowling by the Outlaws with three wickets from Dane Paterson and two-apiece from Matt Carter and Calvin Harrison amongst others.

In reply, Notts started well with Joe Clarke and Alex Hales off to a fast start, Hales out for 19 with Notts 42/1 before a quick 16 by Ben Duckett saw another wicket fall with the Outlaws on 66. Almost half way there.

However thereafter things went from bad to worse, Moores out for 1 before the big wicket of Clarke who registered 42 with the home side on 83, then followed Patel, Slater, Harrison in quick succession and when Mullaney went with Notts eight down, the homeside were still four short of 100.

Fletcher was next out for 3 but Matt Carter was digging in on 23 not out, he was joined by Dane Paterson who faced five balls but with three remaining and Notts just two runs short, he was caught off the bowling of Wheal to spark away day celebrations for a team that certainly has the edge too often over Notts.

A huge crowd of over 14,000 largely going home disappointed, but Nottinghamshire still do have something to play for this season, a red ball title shot re-opens with the second phase of the County Championship which starts on Monday.

After winning Group A of the earlier three group format, Notts play Group B winners Somerset in the South West as they open up their Division One last four fight for the Bob Willis Trophy which Essex won for the first time under its new format last year.

After facing Somerset (Aug 30th), Notts then host Group C winners Lancashire on 5th September before the best of the runners up Hampshire at the Rose Bowl on 12th Sep and Yorkshire at Trent Bridge on 21st September.

The two top teams after four games will playoff in a Lords final that begins on Tuesday 28th September.
