Retford Into Third With Win

Retford United 4-1 Kiveton Miners Welfare (Central Midlands League Premier Division North) 20.10.21

It was a ‘Frost’y night for Kiveton MW at Cannon Park on Wednesday night as hosts Retford United, thanks to a brace apiece from Liam Frost and Mark West, moved into third place in the Central Midlands League Premier North.

Victory for the Badgers, their tenth in the league this season, and fourth in their last five outings, moved them to within five points of leaders Club Thorne Colliery, and four behind second place Newark Town – Liam Kay’s side putting behind them a weekend slip against mid-table Glapwell.

Both strikers would be seen to net a goal apiece in each half, West being the first net after just fifteen minutes, despatching from a corner, whilst coming close to adding a second after 22 minutes only to be foiled after a lovely turn and shot.

The Badgers went into the break two goals to the good however when, on the stroke of half-time, Frost would get on the scoresheet, netting from close range,

It would be Frost who’d be first to the double when a little over ten minutes into the second period, he would work his way around the visiting ‘keeper, and slot the ball into an open goal

It would be after the hour mark in which the visitors would get themselves on the scoresheet, Warwick Wood pulling a goal back on 65 minutes, whilst West was being constantly thwarted a second goal, one which would, eventually, arrive.

With Frost having been replaced with a little over twenty minutes remaining, the onus, most certainly fell at West’s boots, and heading into the final ten minutes, he’d kindly oblige for the hundred strong crowd.

Collecting the ball, West would be seen to coolly slot home into the bottom left hand corner of the visiting goal, and in doing so ensured he, along with Frost, had braces, and thus wrapped up a 4-1 victory.

The Badgers are in another, quick turnaround, returning to league action on Saturday (26 October) afternoon, making the trip to Dearne & District.

Retford United: Crosby, Paling, Brook, Abdulla, Ludlam, Barlow, Mlynarski (Booth 58), Kane (White 69), Fell, West, Frost (Littlejohn 69).
